Southland Tramping Club

Welcome to the Southland Tramping Club.

We consist of trampers of all levels of tramping experience, ranging from casual day-walkers to serious explorers. Families and individuals can all find someone to tramp with in the club.

Club tramping trips are a mix of social trips, day trips and weekend trips. Advantage is always taken of long weekends. Trips range from easy walks to epics in the heart of Fiordland.

The club meets on the second Wednesday of each month (other than January) at 7:30pm in the Federated Farmers Building, 70 Forth Street. Here club members meet to discuss coming and past trips. A speaker or activity completes the meeting which is followed by supper.

Each year the club publishes the Trip List in which a range of tramping, social and mountaineering trips are listed for most weekends in the coming year. Private trips are also encouraged. Instruction courses are usually to be found in the Trip List.

In Southland we are spoilt for choice in our tramping destinations, but Fiordland and Aspiring National Parks along with Central Otago are areas we most often tramp in. Stewart Island, the Catlins, Longwoods, Eyre Mountains, Takitimu Mountains and Snowdon Mountains are also visited. We tramp both on tracks and off-track.
